Helicon Awarded Prestigious SBRI Healthcare Award to Build General Practice of the Future

Helicon Health® has won a prestigious award as part of an SBRI Healthcare £2.1m investment in innovation to build General Practice of the Future. The investment is funded by NHS England. Helicon is one of a group of companies that have been selected to develop novel technologies that aim to revolutionise primary care and GP services.

Helicon Health® has received funding to develop myHelicon-StrokePrevent™, an easy-to use app and digital platform for patients who are at risk of a stroke, to help them become confident in self-care, reduce risk, and live longer healthier lives.

“Stroke is a terrible injury caused by a clot or bleed in the brain. It can result in death or permanent disability. I am delighted Helicon has been selected for this award, to help reduce the burden of stroke to individuals, their families and the NHS”, said Professor David Patterson, Helicon’s founder and Chief Medical Officer.

There are over 150,000 strokes a year in the UK, costing the NHS over £2b and social care costs of £6b. One in four NHS hospital beds is occupied by people who have sustained a stroke. Yet according to a major recent study published in The Lancet, the majority of strokes are avoidable.

Helicon Health’s mission is to support patients and healthcare professionals to reduce the likelihood of stroke.
