Andrew’s role at Helicon Health is to energise the development of the epigastric impedance monitor which he invented. His FFARCSI is a specialist degree in anaesthesia, but for 30 years after it he worked in early stage development of new medicines in the pharmaceutical industry and was principal investigator in 100 mainly Phase 1 or 2 clinical trials. Most of them occurred when he ran his own pioneering company in a major NHS hospital for 14 years, Guildford Clinical Pharmacology. It included developing the exceptionally sensitive and accurate Laser Heat Pain threshold model for testing new analgesics and also new models of gut motility.
